Material Handling History

Our material handling business is the premier provider and single source supplier of material handling control products and services for the industry. Over the past 24 years Magnetek has seen many changes. View our timeline to learn more about the evolution of our Material Handling Group.

1984
Magnetek is formed through the LBO of Litton's Magnetics Group, including Louis Allis Drives & Systems.

1986
Magnetek acquires Power Controls Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA.

1999
Magnetek acquires Electromotive Systems Inc. and Mondel Engineering. Electromotive Systems, founded in 1981, is the world's leading designer and manufacturer of electrification and control products for the overhead material handling industry. Electromotive was the first to use adjustable frequency controls on overhead cranes. Mondel Engineering (Mondel ULC) was founded in 1974 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It was structured to meet the needs of a growing and diverse North American brake market. Mondel Brakes are the standard on many equipment manufacturers' original equipment for a variety of applications.

2003
Magnetek acquires Telemotive Industrial Controls. Telemotive, founded in 1959, pioneered the use of radio controls on overhead cranes and is the leading provider of remote radios in the industry.

2004
Magnetek moves Telemotive business to Menomonee Falls headquarters. Magnetek's three business groups: Electromotive Systems, Telemotive and Mondel Engineering become an "all encompassing" overhead material handling company named Magnetek Material Handling.

2006
Magnetek partners with Eaton Corporation to provide sales, support and service of direct DC drive systems to the crane and hoist industry. These systems are used in primary metal and foundry cranes. Magnetek takes exclusive responsibility for the sales, design, manufacturing and service of the DDC drive systems under it's OmniPulse brand name, while Eaton will continue to design and manufacture the drive, contactor and breaker components.

2008
Magnetek acquires the assets and business of Enrange, LLC, a wireless control manufacturer in Canonsburg, PA.
