As the innovators of the single-cabinet Machine Control Unit (MCU), Magnetek has helped railyards increase productivity, enhance safety, and reduce labor costs. We offer the smallest modular locomotive control system in the industry. The system combines a lightweight, comfortably contoured portable XLTX radio remote Operator Control Unit (OCU) with a Flex M fixed base receiver with all electronics and pneumatics in one cabinet.

EASY INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
  • Magnetek provides on-site, turnkey installation, complete with operator and maintenance training
  • System utilizes license-free 2.4 GHz FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) technology, which provides robust communication and saves frequency licensing costs
  • Ergonomically designed, intuitive XLTX OCU is easy to use and reduces operator fatigue
  • OCU can operate in both portable and fixed modes
  • Typical range is up to 1,500 feet in portable mode
    • Available repeater system can extend the range up to 2,500 feet

INFORMATION AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
  • With two-way communication and a graphic display, warning and diagnostic information is available at a glance on the XLTX OCU
  • Additional information such as battery life, signal strength, incoming air pressure, train air, and independent braking functionality is displayed in real time
  • Diagnostic information is shown in plain English on the display – other languages are available on request
  • The system’s onboard diagnostic circuitry allows rapid identification and correction of problems, simplifying maintenance and minimizing the need for costly multiple work crews  

SAFETY AND CONFIDENCE BUILT-IN
  • The system’s self-check pneumatic program tests itself every time it starts, and continuously verifies the proper air pressure for safe operation when active
  • Integrated pneumatics with a filtered air supply reduces the risk of contamination of control hardware
  • Tilt Detection safety feature shuts down the system and sets the brakes on the locomotive if the operator becomes disabled
  • Wide range of available braking functions include independent braking, train braking, automatic braking, independent brake bail, drag brake, and throttle against train brake
  • Broad operating electronic range from -22°F to +158°F (-30°C to +70°C); RHO to 95% non-condensing

MULTIPLE UNIT (MU) CONNECTOR SYSTEMS

Our Multiple Unit Connector Systems provide the safety and durability you need to control multiple locomotives under harsh industrial locomotive and railyard conditions.
  • At start up, the radio control system self-checks incoming air pressure, independent braking rationality, train brake functionality, and electrical continuity
  • All critical functions are monitored throughout operation
  • Onboard circuitry allows rapid identification and correction of problems, minimizing maintenance costs
  • MU connectors and braking glad hands control the electrical and pneumatic functions
    • Utilizes the existing MU connections to control the throttle, directional and braking functions

  • Portable XLTX radio remote operator control unit
  • Locomotive-mounted NEMA 4 watertight receiver enclosure that houses both the Locomotive Control Unit (LCU) and electro-pneumatic interface
